Life and records
Gray's Hill: Jane (Tildsley) Griffiths, mother of Desire; Smith 1918 Jane Watters Tildsley of Spuyten Duyvil; daughter of John Lee Tildsley and Bertha Alice Watters. Family spelling Tildesley.
Cemetery maiden Tildsley; family spelling Tildesley. Smith College uses Tildsley (class of 1918). Full Smith name Jane Watters Tildsley (Watters = mother's maiden). Class of 1918 plus parents' 24 Jun 1896 marriage implies birth roughly 1896-1900, but that year is inferred, not a vital record. Kathleen Tildsley Griffiths Anderson '57 is Desire's sister (confirmed). Portrait from Smith 1918 class book saved under images/jane-tildsley-griffiths/.
