Mary Mellenbruch
Mary Mellenbruch (born 1845) was born in Germany. Her child was Charles Frederick Mellenbruch.
Marriage and family
Mary Mellenbruch was born in Germany in March 1845, according to a focused high-resolution reading of the 1900 census, which gives her age as 55 and records her immigration to the United States in 1864.[1][3] The 1900 census records her as a widow and as the mother of nine children, seven of whom were living at the time.[1][2] A transcription of the same census row gives her birth year as March 1843 and her age as 57; the later re-reading of the entry found 1845 and age 55 better supported.[2][3] The household included a son, Fred C. Mellenbruch, born in June 1878 in Kansas, then single and working as a farmer; matching this entry to Charles Frederick Mellenbruch makes Mary a probable parent of Charles.[1][4]
Residences
In 1900 Mary Mellenbruch was recorded as head of her household in Walnut Township, Brown County.[1][4] The census lists her own and both parents' places of birth as Germany, while her son Fred was recorded as born in Kansas, with his father's place of birth given as Ohio.[1][4]
