J. McCreary is named as the father of Finley McCrerey in Finley's 1873 marriage record, which lists the groom's parents as "J. J. & Rebecca McCreary".[2][5] The marriage license and return give his initials as J. J., while the corresponding register entry appears to read J. H.[3] An earlier reading of a separate register image as showing the initial T was set aside, as that image was identified as an unrelated older register page rather than the 1873 entry.[1][4] The correct 1873 register entry is recorded as reading J. H., so his second initial remains unresolved.[3][4]
