Maria Van Orden Van Riper (née Van Orden) is a member of the Riper family. She married Col. Jacob A. Van Riper. Her child was Isabella Van Riper Furman.
Marriage and family
Maria Van Orden of Kakiat married Jacob Van Riper of Kakiat on 23 April 1835 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Kakiat (Brick Church) in Rockland County, New York.[1][3] The transcribed register entry gives the date as "April 23, 1835(?)" and records witnesses to the ceremony at Kakiat.[1][3] The 1921 obituary of Isabella Van Riper Furman described her as a daughter of the late Col. Jacob A. Van Riper, and the Kakiat marriage record names Jacob Van Riper's wife as Maria Van Orden.[4]
Later life
A Rockland County newspaper account of December 1883 credited "Mrs. J. A. Van Riper" with the catering of a Spring Valley event, indicating that Jacob Van Riper's wife was still living at that date.[2]
