Josiah White

1714–1806probable

Josiah White (3 January 1714 – 1 September 1806) was born in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts to John White, Josiah White Jr. and Abigail Whitcomb. He married Mary Rice and Deborah House. His children were Josiah White Jr. and Deborah White Carter. He died in 1806, in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.

Early life

Josiah White was born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, on 3 January 1713/4, given as 3 January 1714 in the White genealogy.[3][10] He was a son of Josiah White Jr. and Abigail Whitcomb, and the genealogy lists him among their children.[5][9][10] The genealogy identifies John White, who appears as a parent in the tree data, as his great-great-grandfather rather than his father.[5] Mary Rice, who also appears as a spouse in the tree data, was the wife of his grandfather, Josiah White of Lancaster, and not his own wife.[2][4][10]

Marriage and family

He married Deborah House on 14 March 1739.[3][4][5][10] Their oldest child, Deborah White, was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, on 24 December 1739.[1][6] Deborah married in November 1760 and died in Buckland, Massachusetts, on 23 June 1810.[1][6]

Later life and death

According to the White genealogy, he married a second time and moved to Rockingham, Vermont.[4] He died on 1 September 1806 and was buried near the old church in Rockingham, Vermont.[3]
