Syria Elana "Sea" (Browne) Dickinson (née Browne) (born 1859) was born to John Ross "J. Ross" Browne and Lucy Anna (Mitchell) Browne. She married Dr. Dwight Dickinson. Her child was Mayotta (Dickinson) Caffee Southworth.
Early life
Syria Elana "Sea" Browne was born in 1859, a daughter of J. Ross Browne and Lucy Anna Mitchell.[3][5] Her father married Lucy Anna Mitchell, daughter of a Washington, D.C. physician, after his return in 1844.[4] The Smith College finding aid lists her among the children of J. Ross Browne and Lucy Anna Mitchell, alongside Spencer, Lucy Mayotta and Nina Florence.[5]
Marriage and family
Syria Elana "Sea" Browne married Dr. Dwight Dickinson.[2][5] The Southworth-Dickinson Family Papers include letters between Dr. Dickinson and his wife about their engagement and wedding, as well as correspondence between Lucy and her daughter about the marriage.[2][5] Records give her name in variant forms: the finding aid refers to her as Syria Elana "Sea" and also as Sylvia, and the Oakland Tribune account of her daughter's wedding calls her Mrs. Dwight Dickinson, daughter of the late J. Ross Browne.[1][3][5] Syria Elana Browne died in 1900.[3]
