  • Mayflower passenger

Edward Fuller (1575 – 1621) was born in Redenhall, Norfolk, England to Robert Fuller and Sarah (Dunkhorn) Fuller. He married Mrs. Edward Fuller. His child was Samuel Fuller. He died in 1621, in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony.

Early life and baptism

Edward Fuller was baptised at Redenhall, Norfolk, on 4 September 1575.[1][5][6][7] The Redenhall parish register records him as the son of Robert Fuller.[5][6] He was the second son and second child of Robert "the butcher" Fuller of Redenhall and his first wife Sarah Dunkhorn.[11] The register did not name mothers in baptisms until 1599.[5] Robert Fuller of Redenhall had married Sarah Dunkhorn in 1572 at Starston, Norfolk.[4] The Redenhall register also records the baptisms of several of Edward's siblings as children of Robert Fuller.[2]

Marriage and family

Edward Fuller married in England sometime before 1605, and his wife's first and maiden names are unknown.[10] According to Wikipedia, the couple had just one son, Samuel, born about 1608.[9]

Father's will and inheritance

The will of Roberde Fuller of Redenhall, yeoman, was dated 19 May 1614 and proved at Norwich, first by his widow and then by his son.[4] The will bequeathed to "son Edward Fuller" the tenement called Assyes in Harleston after his widow's death, together with twenty pounds.[3] Another account of the will describes the same grant as the tenement "sometimes Assyes" in Harleston, with its houses, buildings, yards, gardens and orchards.[8]

Mayflower and death

Edward Fuller sailed on the Mayflower with his wife and son Samuel.[1] He signed the Mayflower Compact.[1] He died with his wife at Plymouth in the winter of 1620/21, likely between 11 January and March 1621.[1]

Memorial

A memorial erected at St Mary's Church, Redenhall, by the Fuller Society in 2011 commemorates his baptism in that church on 4 September 1575 and his sailing as a Pilgrim on the Mayflower in 1620.[7]
