Juanita Rose Lewis Mellenbruch
née Lewis
Juanita Rose Lewis Mellenbruch (née Lewis) (23 July 1902 – 8 June 1998) was born to Q. I. Lewis. She married Donald Lawrence Mellenbruch. Her children were Donald L. Mellenbruch Sr. and Charles Norman Mellenbruch. She died in 1998.
Early life
A contemporary wedding notice in the Sabetha Herald identifies Juanita R. Lewis as a daughter of Q. I. Lewis, described there as director of the Fairview band.[11] The newspaper archive's OCR of that notice is imperfect.[11]
Marriage and family
On Saturday evening, 12 February 1927, Juanita R. Lewis of Powhattan married Donald L. Mellenbruch of Fairview at the Methodist parsonage in Powhattan, Kansas, as reported in the Sabetha Herald.[5][10] A son, Charles Norman Mellenbruch, was born in 1931 to Donald Lawrence and Juanita (Lewis) Mellenbruch of rural Brown County in northeastern Kansas.[1][9] The 1940 census schedule for Powhattan Township records Juanita as the wife of the household head, listed as Lawrence Mellenbruck, with a daughter also in the household.[4]
Later life and death
The 1990 obituary of her son Donald L. Mellenbruch Sr. named his surviving parents as Lawrence and Nita Mellenbruch of Fairview.[8] Juanita R. Mellenbruch died on 8 June 1998 at the age of 95.[2][3] She was buried at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Fairview, Brown County, Kansas, in the same cemetery as her husband, Donald Lawrence Mellenbruch (1900–1991).[2][3] The cemetery memorial establishes her burial place but does not state her place of death.[3]
