Marriage and family
At John F. Lewis's marriage in Harrison County on 29 October 1874, the marriage register listed David Lewis and Mary J. Lewis as his parents.[5] The register gives her name as Mary J. Lewis and does not expand her middle initial.[2][3] A 1937 obituary for J. F. Lewis appears to identify his parents as David and Mary Jenkins Lewis, in contrast to the marriage register's Mary J. Lewis, but the accessible archive OCR has ambiguous punctuation.[1][2][4]
