Mary Ellen Dawson (died 1935) was a member of the Dawson family. She married John Franklin Lewis. Her children were Quillian Ivan Lewis and Flora May Lewis Pfister. She died in 1935, in Baldwin, Kansas.
Marriage and family
Mary Ellen Dawson married John Franklin Lewis on 29 October 1874, according to his 1937 obituary.[4][7] A compiled FamilySearch profile records that her son Quillian Ivan Lewis was born on 9 February 1876 in Johnstown, Harrison, West Virginia, when his father was 21 and his mother was 17.[1][5] The same profile names John Franklin Lewis and Mary Ellen Dawson as Quillian Ivan Lewis's parents.[1][5] A Find a Grave memorial states that Flora May was a daughter of John Franklin Lewis and Mary Ellen Dawson.[6]
Later life and death
John Franklin Lewis's 1937 obituary states that his wife, Mary Ellen Dawson, had died about two years earlier, in April.[4] A 1935 newspaper obituary for an unnamed Mrs. J. F. Lewis reports that she died at her home in Baldwin and lists Quillian I. Lewis of Powhattan among her children.[2][3] The archive does not give that obituary subject's first or maiden name, so her identification as Mary Ellen Dawson Lewis is tentative.[2][3]
