née Lewis

1882–1955probable

Maude Lewis Constant Miller (née Lewis) (23 July 1882 – 1955) was born in Johnstown, West Virginia to John Franklin Lewis and Mary Ellen Dawson. She married Dr. William E. Constant and Harry B. Miller. She died in 1955, in Delnor Hospital.

Early life

Maude Lewis Constant Miller was born on 23 July 1882 in Johnstown, West Virginia, according to her 1955 obituary.^[6] A 1924 profile in the Hiawatha Daily World described her as a daughter of J. F. Lewis, and the identification of J. F. as John Franklin Lewis is probable.^[2][11] John Franklin Lewis married Mary Ellen Dawson on 29 October 1874.^[10] A 1935 obituary listed Maude Constant among the children of Mrs. J. F. Lewis, and a 1937 obituary identifies Mary Ellen Dawson as the wife of J. F. Lewis, so the link between the two is probable.^[12]

Marriages and family

The 1924 profile called her Mrs. Constant but gave no middle name, identifying Dr. W. E. Constant of St. Charles as her husband.^[2][5][9] Her obituary reports that she married Dr. William E. Constant in 1916 and that he predeceased her in 1931.^[7] In 1935 a wedding notice recorded the marriage of Maude Lewis Constant to Harry B. Miller, which took place on Sunday 4 August 1935 at Highland M. E. church in Highland, Kansas.^[4][8] A notice of that marriage described her as the widow of the late Dr. W. E. Constant.^[3] Her obituary states that she married Harry B. Miller in 1935 and that he predeceased her in 1949.^[7]

Later life and death

Her obituary reports that she died on a Saturday night at Delnor Hospital following a short illness; her death year was 1955.^[6]
